The History of Housing: Residence as a research field and architectural issue

Prof. Yael Allweil

Against the background of the centrality of the debate on the right to housing in the current social struggle in Israel, the Middle East, and the West, this course examines the centrality of housing to the basic ideas of the nation state and the sovereign citizen, and in accordance with the basic contract between the state and citizens. The course focuses on the planning practices and the living experience in residential units, from the both perspectives the planners and residents.

Grade determination: Active participation in lectures, mid-term assignments, Final project (simulation).

Scope of Study: 3 hours of lecture per week.
