Current job and how your planning degree prepared you for it

I currently serve as a Project Manager and Transport Planner at the Ministry of Transport, overseeing public transportation development in Arab cities. Concurrently, I'm on the verge of completing my Ph.D. at The New School in New York. Engaging in diverse urban planning projects, including urban renewal, master planning, GIS analysis, and strategic development, my planning degree equipped me with a robust theoretical foundation and essential professional tools. These have proven instrumental in navigating the complexities of my role and contributing meaningfully to the advancement of urban planning initiatives.

Motivation for studying urban planning

Embarking on the journey of urban planning was a natural progression fueled by a myriad of influences. From my formative years, accompanying my bus-driver father on travels exposed me to the enchantment of diverse cities in our region. Witnessing urban development projects akin to open-heart surgeries for cities left an indelible mark. Childhood fascination with these transformations, akin to playing SIM City, fueled my curiosity about the intricacies of urban dynamics.

Moreover, my deep connection with my hometown, Nazareth, played a pivotal role. It became a source of inspiration, marking my first love for a city and instilling a profound realization—I could actively contribute to enhancing the well-being of its residents. This amalgamation of early experiences, coupled with a passion for positive urban transformation, propelled me towards the field of urban planning. Today, this motivation continues to drive my commitment to creating resilient, inclusive, and vibrant urban spaces that stand as testaments to the potential of thoughtful urban planning.
