Title: Understanding the distribution of adaptation measures among different urban groups and their contribution to social justice

Description:

Climate change is expected to cause climatic stressors that will disproportionately impact different urban groups and set several challenges for cities. To reduce risk and increase the resilience of the physical systems and communities, cities are urged to adopt and install a variety of adaptation measures that aim to increase resilience and help cities maintain their continuous functioning despite uncertainties. Those measures are not mere, but they matter in terms of social justice. Thus, the distribution of adaptation measures in urban areas is important to explore and examine from the lens of social justice.

Therefore, the study seeks to conceptualize adaptation measures from the lens of social justice and examine their distribution in New York City. Moreover, the study seeks to understand the rationality behind the distribution of measures from the perspective of planners and decision-makers, and the way it is perceived from the perspective of communities.

Career ambitions

My ambition is to work in academia and explore urban adaptation measures from the lens of social justice to alleviate vulnerabilities and achieve justice for underprivileged groups. This can be achieved in academia and by working in the field with different cities, agencies, and movements that care about climate justice.
