About the Graduates of the Technion’s Urban and Regional Planning Program: Amos Brandeis

Amos Brandeis is an architect and urban planner and an outstanding graduate of the program. He is internationally renowned for his work in river restoration around the world. He completed his degree in 1993 and has since become what could be described as an “ambassador of Technion graduates in environmental planning.”

For more than 30 years, Brandeis has led a planning firm that has been involved in a vast range of large-scale and highly complex urban and regional projects throughout Israel. His professional work has included planning, lecturing, teaching, and consulting across all continents.
Brandeis served as Chair of the Israeli Planners Association for three terms and has also held senior positions in the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).

In the photographs below, Amos is seen lecturing at a meeting with environmental activists near the Alexander River—the first river he planned for restoration. Since the river’s sources are located in the Palestinian Authority, the project required him to engage with complex and challenging geopolitical issues.

On the right is Dr. Nahum Itzkowitz, former Director General of several government ministries and a member of the Ometz community. During his tenure as Head of the Hefer Valley Regional Council, he developed the vision for the project and was a key partner in its implementation.
